Vardberg Single Cask Tawny Port Pipe

Vardberg Single Cask Tawny Port Pipe, 5 YO, 48%

A single cask release, fully matured in a 550L ex-Tawny port pipe (cask #78). The fifth release from Berentsens Distillery in Norway. Earlier this autumn 130 bottles from the same cask were released at cask strength (see review).

The Vardberg Single Cask Tawny Port Pipe goes on sale on November 5 in Norway at NOK 889 (19916702).

Nose: Fruity and earthy with rhubarb, damp cellar notes and freshly turned soil. Wet leaves and dried fruits follow, before lighter orchard fruits, sugary sweetness and earthy vanilla appear with time.

Taste: Full bodied and vibrant. Fruity at heart with a burst of dry white pepper, raisins and figs adding depth and warmth.

Finish: Medium long. The spicy heat lingers as the fruits turn juicier. Rhubarb returns, joined by chocolate and almond paste for a rich closing touch.

Comment: Earthy fruit with warm spice.
