Vindöga #1 Blended Nordic Malt Whisky - Nordic Casks #2

Vindöga #1 Blended Nordic Malt Whisky, NAS, 59.7 %

This is, as far as I know, the very first Nordic blended malt. We have previously seen the release of a Swedish blended malt, namely the Bländande Svensk Blended Malt (see review).

Vindöga was composed using sherry cask whisky from Fary Lochan (Denmark - ex-PX hogshead, unpeated), Teerenpeli (Finland - ex-Oloroso hogshead, unpeated), Smögen (Sweden - ex-Oloroso hogshead, heavily peated), High Coast (Sweden - ex-sherry hogshead, heavily peated), Mosgaard (Denmark - ex-Palo Cortado hogshead, unpeated) and Myken (Norway - ex-Oloroso barrel, unpeated).

Available from Berry Bros & Rudd at GBP 155.

Nose: Big and aromatic. Medium yet big smokiness. Rich fruitiness. Orchard fruits with a dark edge to it. Autumnal feeling. It has that Nordic noir feel to it. Comforting as well - a whisky-in-front-of-the-fireplace kind of whisky.

Taste: Full on flavors. Almond milk, sweet licorice. Ginger, nuts and creamy vanilla

Finish: Medium long finish. Sweet, big and bold. Sweet and salty licorice. Massive notes of salty licorice! Peppery ashes. Creamy vanilla and toasted oak. Prickly and fun. Love the richness and complexity of this - let’s admit it - rather young blended malt.

Comment: A bold statement, if I may say so myself. I feel this really does represent the Nordic whisky scene.

Score 87/100

PS! I took part in creating the recipe of this blended malt, so keep that in mind 🙂
