Smögen 2012 9 YO - Nordic Casks #2

Smögen 2012 9 YO, 59.6 %

Finishing off the four single malts of Berry Bros & Rudd’s Nordic Casks #2 series with this heavily peated whisky from Smögen, Sweden. Distilled 2012 and full matured in a single ex-Oloroso hogshead (cask #34). Limited to 284 bottles.

Available from Berry Bros & Rudd at GBP 165.

Nose: Rich, soft, big, wonderful smoky, fruity and mildly spicy. With time pine woods on fire - that distinct Smögen note. Cannot be any pine wood forests left in Sweden by now - Pär has set them all on fire. With further time chocolate and cacao nibs.

Taste: Big and flavorful. The palate matches the nose perfectly. Nothing left to chance here. Sweet, voluminous, dried fruits, pine cones on fire, orchard fruits, chocolate and hint of orange marmalade.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Peppery, oily, smoky and rich all the way. The pine woods are still on fire.

Comment: A delightful Swede!
