The Gospel Solera Rye

The Gospel Distillers is a distillery located in Melbourne, Australia. Their products are now available in Norway, so I must try them. First off The Gospel Solera Rye, and here is what they say about the product at the distillery (see the official product page for more):

“It is hand-crafted from 100% Australian grown unmalted rye from a single farm in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia. [..] the rye spirit is double distilled and then aged in our bespoke five-tiered solera system of new American oak, second-fill American oak and Australian red wine barrels.”

The Gospel Solera Rye is available in Norway at NOK 699 (19560501).

Nose: Toasted oak, white pepper, honey cake and vanilla. With time slightly burnt caramel, as well as ripe banana.

Taste: Medium body. Mildly oaky with light spices - white pepper and hints of cinnamon. Pencil shavings and sweet vanilla.

Finish: Medium long finish. Hints of dried fruits and continuing the mellow spiciness. Dark chocolate with raspberry jam.

Comment: A fun encounter.
