Smögen The “dregs” cask
Smögen The “dregs” cask, 3 YO, 57.1%
A whisky with what Pär himself calls a Nonsensical Age Statement. It contains the dregs (leftovers) from numerous casks throughout the years, all the way back to the initial release Primör (bottled 2013). In July 2024 he r4easonbed he had enough “dregs” collected and filled a 1st fill ex-Amontillado cask with this unholy mess fine assortment of whisky, for a nice long marrying period. And here we are about a year later. Limited to 444 bottles.
On the label Pär says “ [..] offers a well balanced and smooth whack of character.” We shall see about that..
Nose: Surprisingly light, sweet and fruity on the nose. Doubly surprising after the first sip as you shall shortly see. Malty with mellows notes of sweet, ripe orchard fruits. Toasted marshmallows and pencil shavings with time.
Taste: Full of body and attitude. Spirited and high octane, firing on all cylinders. Peaty for sure. Spicy as hell. And - bitterish with a distinct green and herbal whack.
Finish: Medium long finish. The whack keeps on whacking! Tiger Balm; eucalyptus, menthol and white pepper. Pine cones on fire. A whole league of scarecrows on fire actually. OK, there’s some fruity sweetness here as well, and it is on the dry side.
Comment: It’s darn good, but also darn weird! The Black Art of Smögen..
