Sazerac Rye
Sazerac Rye, 6 YO, 45%
This is a classic produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky, USA. Do try this in the namesake cocktail!
The Sazerac Rye is a straight rye whiskey, and is also known as the “Baby Sazerac” or “Baby Saz” due to its older “sibling” the Sazerac 18 YO Rye.
Buffalo Trace does not publish detailed mash bills for all their products, but the consensus seems to be that this is a low rye mash bill - at Buffalo Trace designated Rye Mash Bill #1.
The Sazerac Rye is available in Norway at NOK 710 (13063201).
Nose: Rich notes of vanilla, honey, cinnamon, cloves and white pepper on the nose. Tropical fruits with time, along with a light oakiness in the form of pencil shavings. The cinnamon increases in presence as time marches on.
Taste: Medium to full bodied. Honey, aniseed and white pepper. Dryish in character. Hints of oaky astringency. Ginger, nuts and nougat.
Finish: Medium long finish. Lots of vanilla. Marshmallows dipped in strawberry and vanilla milkshake, with a drizzle of grated white chocolate on top.
Comment: A classic.
