Kildalton 2008 (Liquid Art)
Kildalton 2008 (Liquid Art), 16 YO, 52.1%
A recent release from independent bottler Liquid Art, in their Celebrating the Shops series. Matured in an ex-sherry cask, and limited to 101 bottles, so could possibly be a partial cask. The distillery is undisclosed on this one, but the name does indicate it is one of the three “Kildalton distilleries”; Laphroaig, Lagavulin or Ardbeg. I think I would put my money on Ardbeg in this case.
The Kildalton 2008 (Liquid Art) is still available to buy directly from Liquid Art at € 275.
Nose: Delightful, gentle aromas of malt intertwine with the essence of sourdough bread crust, evoking memories of distant bonfires and a hint of Maldon Smoked Sea Salt. As time unfolds, tempered citrus notes emerge, followed by an increase in smoke and peat, complemented by hints of soot and a bicycle tire repair kit. There’s a touch of earthiness as well.
Taste: This dram is full-bodied, featuring smoky and salty licorice complemented by hints of citrus. A subtle maltiness lingers in the background, while creamy vanilla and almond paste add an additional layer of richness..
Finish: The finish is medium to long, exhibiting a somewhat drier character at this stage. It presents mild spiciness, a gentle oakiness, and a consistent hint of licorice that lingers throughout.
