Hinrichsen’s Wonter 2025

Hinrichsen’s Wonter 2025, NAS 56.5%

This single malt whisky from Hinrichsen’s Farm Distillery in Germany was bottled 2025. Matured in a combination of ex-Oloroso sherry, ex-vermouth, and American oak casks. Produced using spring barley (Avalon). This release is limited to 720 bottles. The name Wonter is the Frisian word for winter.

The Hinrichsen’s Wonter 2025 can be purchased directly from the distillery at € 123.

Nose: Rather shy on the nose, but there are notes of dried fruits, caramel, honey and nuts if you stick to it (or stick your nose into it as it were).

Taste: Full bodied and again very intense and concentrated - similar to the Hinrichsen’s Distillers Cut 2024. Lots of dried fruits, tempered by mild spices and an oakiness that sneaks up on you and pounces. Red berries abound, veritably swimming in honey and dark caramel.

Finish: Medium long finish. Well, here we are - thoroughly pounced - but the oak is in no way overpowering or indeed all that astringent in character. The rich notes of dried fruits and red berries keep evolving - wave after wave. Dry towards the end.

Comment: A fine Winter dram!
