Helsinki Whiskey Single Malt - Release VYS #24, 7 YO, 53.2 %

Release #24 from Helsinki Distilling Co. (HDCO). Made using 100% Finnish malted barley. This small batch expression was bottled exclusively for Viskin Ystävien Seura (VYS), the biggest whisky club in Finland. Matured in “virgin ex-applejack” casks for 7 years. This whiskey was released 2023-11-20, and was the first single malt released by HDCO since 2020 (their release #16). They usually release rye whisky.

Nose: Light and inviting with fresh apples and pears. Richer notes of caramel fudge provide depth, while nougat and milk chocolate emerge with time.

Taste: Full bodied and fruit-forward. Orchard fruits remain at the core, now joined by pepper, ginger and cinnamon. Hints of herbs and sweet licorice add complexity.

Finish: Medium long. Apples, white pepper and caramel linger, balancing creamy sweetness with a dry edge. A soft astringency rounds off the finish.

Comment: Fresh fruit with spicy elegance.
