Another old release of an old Glenglassaugh. Bottled 2013-10-30, which means it was distilled in 1983 or late 1982 (well, the youngest drops in the composition were). Most likely matured in (for the most part) ex-sherry casks.

Nose: Fruity as heck. Dried fruits and ripe orchard fruits lead, joined by rowan berries. Leather upholstery and polishing oil follow, then pipe oil and tobacco leaves. Even a car mechanic’s dirty overalls come to mind. Weird associations, perhaps, but utterly delightful.

Taste: Full bodied with a creamy, rich delivery. Dried fruits and citrus dominate, with dates, mandarins and a hint of grapefruit standing out.

Finish: Long. A little spicier now, with greater depth to the fruitiness. Dried fruits served with the lightest sprinkling of sea salt, before salty caramel and vanilla ice cream take over at the end.

Comment: Wonderfully weird, rich and rewarding.

Score 91/100
