Here’s an old release of an old Glenglassaugh. Distilled 1986-02-19, matured in a single ex-sherry butt (cask #7), and bottled December 2014. Limited to 547 bottles.

Nose: Lots of exotic spices. Complex and demanding, and surprisingly a little rough at first, though that quickly subsides. With time, citrus, primarily lime, emerges alongside sun-warmed, well-worn leather and toasted oak. The nose just keeps getting better and better.

Taste: Full bodied with a rather spicy delivery. Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and various shades of pepper lead, followed by dried fruits and ripe orchard fruits. Some oaky astringency adds structure.

Finish: Long. Remains remarkably fresh, borderline acidic and intensely fruity, with nuts and earthy vanilla lingering alongside the fruit.

Comment: Demanding, complex and increasingly rewarding.

Score 89/100
