Fary Lochan Sherry & Peat #02

Fary Lochan Sherry & Peat #02, 11 YO, 51.3%

More second-hand-smoke-single-malt from Danish magicians at Fary Lochan. Distilled 2014-02-1, initially matured in a 1st fill ex-Oloroso sherry hogshead for 9 years and 5 months, then (re-casked 2023-07-05) finished for 1 year and 7 months in two 2nd fill ex-Islay bourbon quarter casks. Bottled 2025-02-13, and limited to 323 bottles.

Made using unpeated Danish barley, so all the smoke here is from the ex-Islay cask.

You can still buy (the 5 cl bottles) direct from the distillery at DKK 105.

Nose: Dried fruits and soft, sweet, fluffy clouds of wood smoke. Earthy vanilla, leather, honey and almond paste. With time milk chocolate and marzipan.

Taste: Full bodied, creamy and sweet. We are definitely in the realm of dessert whisky. Dried fruits, caramel and sugary sweetness. Raisins and figs - even plums.

Finish: Medium to long finish. The dark sweetness of dried fruits continue to dominate. Now we have honey, leather and grandma’s Chesterfield sofa joining the party.

Comment: This is pure fun!
