Fary Lochan Sherry & Peat #01
Fary Lochan Sherry & Peat #01, 9 YO, 50.5%
Danish whisky from Fary Lochan. Distilled 2014-06-25, initially matured for 8 years and 1 month in a 250L 1st fill ex-Oloroso sherry cask, then finished for 1 year and 2 months in a 250L 2nd fill ex-Islay bourbon hogshead. Bottled 2023-08.30.
Made using unpeated Danish barley, so all the smoke here is from the ex-Islay cask.
Nose: Lovely notes of sweet dried fruits along with a mild maltiness and gentle puffs of wood smoke. Somewhat earthy in character. With time more nuances materialize; softly herbal notes and a mild brininess.
Taste: Full bodied. Lots of sweet notes of dried fruits, honey and cinnamon. All playing nice. A warm and mild smokiness covers it all like a comfy duvet.
Finish: Medium long finish. It comes across as both heavy and light at the same time. The sweetness is super comfortable and cozy. Mild notes of orchard fruits and malt lingers in the background.
Comment: This whisky appeals to me.
