En öl- och whiskymässa 2024; aka fun in Gothenburg

Time for the annual visit to Gothenburg, Sweden. It is just a three and a half hour drive from home, so this is more than doable. April 19 and 20 the massive En öl- och whiskymässa (“A beer and whisky festival”, yes, a very creative name for this festival as well) is happening at the conference facilities at Gothia Towers in Gothenburg.

More than 150 producers are present, 2000 products are on offer in total, 17 stands offering whisky, 11 stands offering rum, plus numerous other fine products. All in all 32 master classes as well! An expected attendance of more than 22.000 over the two days makes this one of the largest whisky fairs anywhere.

Here are a few impressions from Day 1 of this years fair.

Always tons of exciting whisky from Clydesdale. Here a very fine, old Glenlossie.

Highland Park 18 YO single cask exclusive for Sweden. Just launched. Clocking in at a whopping 60 % ABV.

My good friend Mikael keeps walking. He certainly knows how to dress for the occasion!

Independent bottler Svenska Eldvatten keep releasing great whiskies. Tommy and Peter are also fond of cats. I’m allergic to those hairy creatures (critters?), but this was very good indeed!

I love Scotch Malt Whisky Society. Luckily they are very much present at this fair.

Look at all the goodies! Yum, yum!

My dear friend Klaus appears to be in good spirits as well.

They even have quite decent tequila at this fair. On Day 2 I will explore more rum and other malternatives.

There will of course be proper reviews of whiskies (and more) following this fair, but for that I need to get back to my whisky cave.

Sláinte!
