Buran Port Finish No.1

Buran Port Finish No.1, 3 YO, 47.9%

This is second, and first generally available, release from Norwegian distillery Buran Norsk Whisky AS. This whisky was initially filled into a 200L ex-bourbon cask on 2021-12-02 , then re-casked into a 123L ex-port wine cask on 2023-12-16, and finally bottled on 2025-03-21.

The Buran Port Finish No.1 is available in Norway at NOK 879 (19586301).

Nose: Comforting and warm with earthy fruitiness and gentle wood smoke. The alcohol and smoke are beautifully integrated. Creamy vanilla, orchard fruits and red berries round out the profile.

Taste: Medium bodied and smooth. Red berry and rhubarb notes bring a wine-like quality, joined by soft earthiness, vanilla and mild oak. A touch of astringency and dry, peppery soot adds structure.

Finish: Medium long. Becomes more sooty and slightly “dirty”. Mild sweetness returns, pairing nicely with the lingering smoke.

Comment: Smoky fruit with depth.
