One of many great things about visiting whisky distilleries is the chance to get your hands on something special. Distillery exclusive releases are perhaps the most fun, Here is a Warehouse 9 hand-filled exclusive that I picked up at the Bunnahabhain distillery a few years back. Matured in an undisclosed cask and then finished in a single Moine PX cask (cask #AR13000005). Bottled 2018.

Nose: Oh, love the mix of rich and dark PX cask and the potent and aromatic Bunnahabhain Moine (peated whisky). Heavy on the coffee, dark chocolate and cocoa nibs. There’s also dried fruits, cinnamon, nuts and - of course - PX sherry.

Taste: Very rich and full bodied. Sugary, peppery and smoky ashes. You can chew this whisky. Softly oaky. Lots of chocolate on the palate as well, but not as much coffee.

Finish: Medium to long finish. It gradually turns lighter, sweeter and takes on a light fruitiness. White sugar and fruity hard candy. Vanilla, toasted oak, a pinch of salt and sweet wood smoke. Oily and aromatic. Hints of citrus and green herbs in the end.

Comment: An Islay delight!
