SMWS 93.125 Sugary espresso in a mechanic’s cup

SMWS 93.125 Sugary espresso in a mechanic’s cup, 12 YO, 57.8 %

This release from Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) was distilled at Glen Scotia distillery in Campbeltown, 2007-03-30. It was matured in a single 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel, bottled 2019, and yielded a total of 195 bottles.

Nose: Cold-brewed coffee filled to the brim with white sugar. Toasted oak. Feels a little dirty, but in a very good way. Creamy vanilla and strawberries in the background. With time I find it cooler, and softly herbal.

Taste: Full bodied and very fresh. Red berries - sweet and juicy - sprinkled with white pepper and finely ground ginger.

Finish: Medium to long finish. More of the same really. Fairly spicy. A bit drier now, and a little more oaky. Mildly astringent. Green herbs towards the very end.

Comment: I love the smell of sugary coffee in the mornin'!

Score 89/100

Thank you Robert O. for the sample!
