Smokehead Unfiltered, NAS, 46%

So this is pretty much the standard Smokehead Original, but at 46% ABV and unchillfiltered. The distillery is, as always with Smokehead, undisclosed. Matured in ex-bourbon barrels. See the official product page for more details.

The Smokehead Unfiltered is available in Norway at NOK 700 (19724801).

Nose: Smoky and peaty, with distinct chocolate notes adding a darker edge. Pencil shavings, toasted oak and malt sit underneath. With time, a medium spiciness develops and gives the nose a little more “grip”.

Taste: Medium body. Definitely more going on here than in the Original. Richer, spicier and with noticeably more oomph. The pepper is more pronounced too, bringing welcome energy and bite.

Finish: Medium long finish. Chocolate continues, now joined by a touch of sweet liquorice. A pinch of salt appears towards the end, together with lingering toasted oak.

Comment: More smoke, spice and muscle.
