Smokehead Original

Smokehead Original, NAS, 40%

This single malt was distilled at an undisclosed Islay distillery, and matured in ex-bourbon barrels. I feel certain the source of this liquid is either Caol Ila or one of the Kildalton distilleries.

The Smokehead Original is available in Norway at NOK 630 (19724701).

Nose: Driftwood on fire, carried by a light sea breeze and a soft whiff of toasted marshmallows. With time, gentler orchard fruits emerge, along with a small lift of citrus.

Taste: Medium to light body. Briny and smoky, though rather light in overall character. Hints of toasted oak add a dry, slightly charred edge.

Finish: Relatively short finish. Strawberries join the mix now, adding a brief fruity sweetness. Otherwise lightly peated, smoky and briny to the end.

Comment: Smoke signals from the shore.
