Smögen 2011 9 YO Single Cask 24/2011

Smögen 2011 9 YO Single Cask 24/2011, 58.1 %

Matured in a single Swedish oak hogshead. Distilled July 2011 and bottled February 2021. Limited to 374 bottles.

Nose: Cinnamon, nutmeg, toasted oak, and rich wood smoke. Fresh oak and creamy vanilla. With time also a hint of pine wood - and the overly sweet notes of the fresh Swedish oak. In a word - cellulose.

Taste: Super rich and very spicy up front. Then the cellulose sweetness of the Swedish oak hints me right between the eyes. White pepper, cinnamon, ginger and again pine wood forest on fire.

Finish: Medium long finish. The Swedish oak is somewhat masked now. Almond milk, marshmallows and .. oh, no .. the cellulose sweetness is back.

Comment: Sorry Pär. My struggle with Swedish oak continues. 2nd fill or even 3rd fill would be acceptable, I believe. The score is still pretty decent, as the distillate is world class.

Score 84/100
