Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey, NAS, 35 %

So, well.. Sorry, I just had to try this. Not because I expected it to be good, but just because .. well, there is no good reason, I guess. Which in a weird way is a good reason in itself, for me. And I expect I’ll be taking one for the team with this one.

Anywho, this is obviously not a whisky (or whiskey) despite the name of the product. They are not all that fuzzy in the US, after all. The producer made sure to specify this is THE original peanut butter whiskey. I did not even know this was a whole category of whiskey in the US, but then again there is so much going on in the wide world of whisky that I cannot possibly stay on top of every trend. The label proudly (?) states “to the misfits, black sheep and skrewballs”. OK, then.

I tried finding out more about the product and visited their homepage. This was not altogether easy. Clicking on “our story” I got “Page not found”. I am not sure if this is intentional or an error..

Skrewball was originally a shot made mixing Jameson and peanut butter. There is no official information on where the whiskey used in Skrewball is sourced from today, but the fact that Pernod Ricard bought the whole Skrewball company earlier this year is perhaps an indication?

Nose: Very much peanut butter, but also a lot of milk chocolate. It reminds me of the deep fried Snickers bar I had in Glasgow many years ago. I know, why would I even try that? I was curious - then and now.

Taste: Medium to full bodied. Very, very sweet. Peanut butter an milk chocolate again. Hints of pepper and astringency in the background. Did I mention it is sweet?

Finish: Hardly any at all, finish that is. Dry and weird now. Like licking sun dried plywood.

Comment: Certainly not even remotely close to being a whiskey. Weird and sweet. Hmm.

Score 60/100
