Nikka Coffey Gin, NAS, 47 %

Nikka Coffey GinJapanese gin, huh? Well, the Nikka Coffey Gin is made by the famous Japanese whisky company Nikka. They use their Coffey stills to create both this product and the Nikka Coffey Vodka (see review). Both product were launched about a year ago.

Here is part of the official blurb:

"Nikka Coffey Gin's complexity is achieved through the perfect balance between 11 selected botanicals and the silky texture of Coffey distillates. The bright and zesty aroma originating from four kinds of Japanese citruses, Yuzu, Kabosu, Amanatsu and Shequasar, compliments the traditional gin botanicals of juniper berries, angelica, coriander seeds, lemon and orange peels."

You can buy the Nikka Coffey Gin in the UK at around GBP 48. It is expected to be available to buy in Norway shortly.

Nose: Lovely citrus driven gin. I get lime juice and zest, sweet mandarin juice, and rich yuzu. Juniper - of course, but it is a balanced and tempered presence. It does not clobber everything else to death but rather complements the whole.

Taste: Soft and of medium body. Not as rich in citrus as on the nose, which is too bad. It is more mellow and toned down on the palate. Citrus and juniper still dominate. White and black pepper. Hints of cucumber.

Finish: Short finish. Mainly spicy now; peppers of various persuasions. Hints of white chocolate. A touch watery finish.

Comments: Love the citrusy nose.
