Myken Sea Mist

Myken Sea Mist, 4 YO, 47%

The latest core range whisky from Norwegian distillery Myken. This is a peated whisky at almost five years of age (4 years and 11 months). The peat level (in the malt) is stated at 22 ppm, being a combination of 35 ppm Castel Maltings Chateau whisky peated malt and unpeated Weyermann Pilsner malt. Matured in 72% ex-bourbon casks and 28% ex-Pineau des Charantes casks. See the official product page for more details.

The Myken Sea Mist is available in Norway at NOK 900 (19928601).

Nose: Light, fruity and malty. Citrus and dark caramel mingle with earthy cinnamon, turning gradually more herbal and lightly oaky with time.

Taste: Medium bodied with a surprisingly forceful smoky hit. More “the sea on fire” than sea mist, though the atmospheric intensity fits both. Fruity, smoky and malty.

Finish: Medium long and layered. Fruity and rich yet herbal and intriguing, developing camphor and deeper malt toward the end.

Comment: Smoky richness with herbal depth.
