Kinahan's SRP #28 Irish Single Malt Amarone Cask

Kinahan’s SRP #28 Irish Single Malt Amarone Cask, 13 YO, 53 %

A new release from the “cask managers” at Kinahan's. This sourced Irish single malt whiskey has been matured in ex-bourbon casks and then finished in ex-Amarone wine casks. Distilled 2008 and bottled Spring 2022. Limited to 300 bottles.

I have to add a few words on the confusing labeling by Kinahan’s. So this product is labeled Release #28, and I would then assume this is a one off release. But searching online I find at least two other Kinahan’s Release #28. The first distilled in 2008, finished in Amarone cask, but bottled 2021 at 12 YO and with an ABV of 57 %. The last one bottled 2019 at 11 YO and an ABV of 57.48 %. Confusing indeed. I am not sure they know what a “release” is.

This whisky goes on sale in Norway this coming week at NOK 1447 (15453601).

Nose: Rich and a little dark. Cacao nibs and dark chocolate. Red berries and stone fruit.

Taste: Full bodied. Red wine notes and dried fruits. Dry-ish with hints of astringency. Assorted red berries.

Finish: Medium long finish. More dark chocolate with juicy jam filling.

Comment: Rich and sweet.
