A fairly new release from Highland Park is up for trial today. Here’s a quick intro, quoted from the official product page:

“Between You and I is a 16-year-old single malt, crafted from virgin Swedish oak casks, ex-bourbon casks and sherry-seasoned oak casks. This special-edition, released in collaboration with Michelin-starred chef Björn Frantzén is all about discovering a more personal way to taste whisky”

The Highland Park 16 YO Between You and I is available to buy in Norway at NOK 1900 (19986101).

Nose: Opens with malt, oak and gentle florals. Over time the malt develops into sweet barley, while the oak transforms into the distinctive sweet, weighty character of Swedish oak. Heather and wildflowers gradually take centre stage.

Taste: Full bodied with a slightly dry profile. Dried fruits and dry wood smoke arrive first, followed by the expected honey. The Swedish oak remains firmly in command, bringing an unusually sweet, woody character that dominates the palate.

Finish: Long. Increasingly floral with the same heavy sweetness from the Swedish oak. Assorted nuts, peppermint and polka dot hard candy round out the finish.

Comment: Sweet oak overshadows Highland Park.
