A peated (20 ppm) core range product from Glenturret, matured in a combination of American and European oak casks as well as refill casks. Back in 2016 I reviewed a NAS predecessor of this product (see review).
Glenturret has announced that it will halt all peated whisky production from 2026, and the two peated core range products, the 10 YO and this 7 YO will be phased out (source: Whisky Advocate).
The Glenturret 7 YO Peat Smoked is available in Norway at NOK 954 (19920901). Also available straight from the distillery at GBP 62.
Nose: Salty, smoky and fruity, though somewhat restrained at first. Gradually opens to reveal soft vanilla and a touch of citrus beneath the smoke.
Taste: Medium bodied and firmly dry. Peaty and malty with orchard and dried fruits wrapped in black wood smoke and dark chocolate. Dark red berries add depth.
Finish: Medium long. Dry, fruity and peaty, now joined by a firmer spicy grip of assorted peppers and oak. Chocolate milk and a pinch of salt round off the close.
Comment: Dark peat with salty sweetness.
