This is actually the second Glengoyne single malt selected by and bottled for Dr. Jekylls Pub in Oslo.

This Glengoyne 10 YO Dr Jekyll’s Single Cask has been fully matured in a single Madeira hogshead (cask #1021). The cask was selected by the Dr. Jekyll’s Pub team on a trip to the distillery back in September 2009.

Today only one of the original team still works at Dr. Jekyll’s Pub, the legend Tommy Almåsbakk. This just goes to show you cannot rush good whisky!

This whisky was bottled in July 2020, with a total outturn of 305 bottles.

A few of the bottles have been released for sale through the monopoly shops in Norway at NOK 1900 (12082201).

Nose: Oooh, dessert is served! A delightful and aromatic helping of assorted fruits, earthy cinnamon, and soft spiciness. Orchard fruits, dates and apricots. With time also notes of dunnage warehouse and rhubarb. Quite sweet over all.

Taste: Big and almost “meaty” in character. At the same time it also feels light and sugary sweet. Lovely top notes of apples, pears and light citrus. Vanilla and sweet caramel.

Finish: Medium long finish. Deeper and richer on the finish, but the sugary fruity top notes are also still there. Rhubarb served with a sprinkling of white sugar and icing sugar.

Comment: Different from other Glengoyne’s I’ve had recently. The Madeira cask has imparted a lovely, light and fresh sweetness.

Score 89/100
