This is my first ever review of a single malt from the Eau Claire Distillery, Alberta, Canada. It has been matured in a combination of new European oak barrels and ex-bourbon barrels.

I am not 100 % sure which batch my sample is from, but I’m guessing batch #4 or #5. The current batch is #7 and available to buy from the distillery online at C$ 100.

Nose: This one opens with an unusual combination of sweet potato and strawberry, presenting an intriguing contrast. It's a peculiar mix where top notes and base notes stand out, but the middle seems absent. The profile is light and fruity with wine-like characteristics, yet simultaneously earthy and heavy.

Taste: The body leans towards medium to light. It's an odd, sweet, and somewhat watery experience. Flavors of watermelon, mango, and again sweet potato come through, followed by an unexpected and abrupt dryness.

Finish: The finish is short-lived. It features a blend of white pepper, vanilla, and fudge, evolving into a minty and noticeably oaky conclusion.

Comment: Not sure about this. Not sure at all.

Score 74/100

Big thanks to Even S. for the sample!
