Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Inaugural Release

Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Inaugural Release, ~4 YO, 46 %

Today I bring you a brand new Irish whiskey. The Dumshanbo from The Shed Distillery.

The Shed Distillery was started in 2014, and in late 2019 they released the Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Inaugural Release.

This whiskey was distilled in December 2014, and bottled some time in 2019, making it around 4 years old. It was made with a combination of malted Irish barley, unmalted Irish barley and Irish Barra oats. It is triple distilled and matured in a mix of Oloroso sherry casks and Kentucky bourbon casks.

Cool also that on the label they have an image of the fabled jackalope, the jackrabbit with antelope horns. The same mythical being is used on the labels for the excellent Norwegian gin Harahorn.

Nose: Wool and citrus. Vanilla and malt. Quite fruity. Medium spiciness. With time also a hint of cheese, but in a very good way. An intriguing nose for sure.

Taste: Medium body and lots of spices. Bordering on chili peppers here. Also tons of vanilla and black pepper.. Milk chocolate with bits of red and green chili. The citrus is just as present on the palate as on the nose. Lemons and orange peel.

Finish: Medium long finish. Creamy, with again lots of vanilla and milk chocolate. The chocolate is now speckled with bits of nuts rather than chili.A bit herbal and watery in the end.

Comment: Quirky and fun from Ireland!
