Chichibu 2009 7 YO Malt Dream Cask

Chichibu 2009 7 YO Malt Dream Cask, 61.4 %

My favourite whisky bar in Japan, and probably in the world, is Shot Bar Zoetrope, near Shinjuku Station in Tokyo. You can read a report from one of my visits to Shot Bar Zoetrope here. This special distillery bottling from Chichibu Distillery was released in celebration of the 10th anniversay of the bar.

The Chichibu 2009 7 YO Malt Dream Cask was distilled in November 2009, matured in a 1st fill bourbon barrel (cask# 552), and bottled in January 2017. In total the barrel yielded 196 bottle.

Nose: A fresh and lovely bourbon barrel matuyred whisky this. Tropical fruits and vanilla stand out immediately. Then hints of tobacco and camphor. With time assorted citrus as well as grilled pineapple. Love the softly acidic tropical-ness (?) here!

Taste: Very rich and full bodied. Matches the nose well; vanilla and tropical fruits. Citrus also. Then almond, cinnamon and ginger.

Finish: Medium long finish. Remains fresh, rich and savoury all the way.

Comment: Here’s to Chichibu, Shot Bar Zoetrope, and Atsushi! Hope to visit the bar again soon!

Score 89/100
