Bivrost Heimdallr
Bivrost Heimdallr, 4 YO, 50%
The first release in the new “Æsir” series from Aurora Spirit, the world’s northernmost distillery.
Here is the description from the official product page:
Made with heritage Norwegian barley, Kveik – yeasts and matured in carefully selected Rye and Amontillado-seasoned casks, this Whisky is a true testimony to Arctic craftmanship. The whisky matured in our modern Viking longhouse. Extreme Arctic temperature shifts and an average annual temperature of just 0.6°C ensured a slow, complex maturation. Heimdallr was matured in Rye and Amontillado casks.
I could not leave well enough alone, of course. So I pestered the key people I know at the distillery and teased out the following additional fun facts and nerdy info:
24% of the barley used is Norwegian barley, malted at Bonsak
100% of the malted barley was fermented at the distillery (“house brew”) using Kveik (a type of traditional Norwegian farmhouse brewing yeast)
4% from the vatting was transferred to a teak cask for three days for an extra little weak
This release is made from 17 casks total, and limited to 8212 bottles.
The Bivrost Heimdallr will be released in Norway on November 5, 2025, at a cost of NOK 959. The international release is set to November 26, 2025.
Nose: Rich, warm and deeply malty. Fruity layers intertwine with warm caramel sauce, toasted oak and earthy cinnamon. Comforting like a fire on a stormy winter night.
Taste: Full bodied and vibrant with spice. Tropical fruits and exotic notes dance together in creamy, medium-sweet harmony.
Finish: Medium long finish. Exotic spices linger alongside dark chocolate, coffee beans and toasted oak, leaving a chewy, delicious impression.
Comment: Warm, spicy and rich.
