Say hello to the Bivrost Fenrir, release number 1 in the new Loke Series from Aurora Spirits, Norway.
For the Fenrir they used 5 125 litre casks. Three of them were ex-bourbon casks (filled in 2022 with liquid that had been matured in 250 litre ex-sherry casks since 2020), two ex-sherry casks (filled in 2022 with liquid that had been matured in 200 litre ex-bourbon since 2020). Finally a small amount of whisky (not a full cask) added from an ex-rum cask and touch from an ex-teak cask. The youngest liquid in this complex composition is 4 years and 6 months old.
The Bivrost Fenrir was limited to 1680 bottles and it sold out very quickly.
Nose: Light and inviting with a bright fruitiness supported by gentle cinnamon and toasted oak. A greener layer soon reveals itself; resin, fresh pine cones, cut grass and mint lend freshness. Creamy vanilla softens and rounds out the profile.
Taste: Full bodied and immediately approachable. It opens with a touch of spice before shifting to mellow caramel, soft cinnamon, and candy-like fruit sweetness. A cooling thread of mint runs through, adding lift to the palate.
Finish: Medium long and gently fading. The sweetness remains restrained, allowing the lighter fruit and minty notes to linger. Clean, polished, and very drinkable.
Comment: A refined and relaxed dram.
