Beverbach Tri-Cask Single Malt German Whiskey

Beverbach Tri-Cask Single Malt German Whiskey, NAS, 43%

A German whiskey produced by Hardenberg Distillery. located in Lower Saxony, Germany. First established in 1700, they have been distilling for a while. As far as I can tell they started their whiskey production when they built their current distillery in 2018.

This product is called a “Tri-Cask” as it has been matured in three different types of casks; ex-Kentucky bourbon casks, new American oak casks, and German Napoleon oak casks. Now, what the heck is a “German Napoleon oak” you may ask. I certainly did. And the answer I got was this:

“The "German Napoleon Oak Cask" is crafted from German oak, particularly from regions like the Palatinate Forest, Spessart, or the Swabian Alb, known for their high-quality oak trees. These forests have been sustainably managed, with trees often maturing over approximately 200 years before being harvested for barrel production.

The designation "Napoleon" in this context does not indicate a direct historical connection to Napoleon Bonaparte. Instead, it is a nomenclature adopted by certain cooperages and distilleries to denote a particular style or quality of oak cask.” - Source Wilhelm Eder

The Beverbach Tri-Cask Single Malt German Whiskey is available to buy at around € 45 online.

Nose: Earthy notes of vanilla blend seamlessly with malt and oak planks. The aroma of damp oak planks, dusted with wet sawdust, emerges over time, revealing layers of white pepper, vanilla ice cream, a touch of ginger, and a subtle hint of tropical fruit.

Taste: Medium to full-bodied, this dram presents a creamy and rich texture, complemented by a slightly rough character and an assertive alcohol nibble. Notes of black and white pepper intertwine with hints of oak, leading to a mild bitterness that adds unsolicited depth to the experience.

Finish: The finish is short to medium in length, offering - if nothing else - a consistent experience throughout. It attempts to close off with a cool and minty sensation, but is followed by subtle notes of vanilla-flavored oak chips that bring the tasting experience to a close.

Comment: There’s really nothing wrong here, but I’m not convinced.
