Aberdeenshire Single Malt 12 YO (Little Brown Dog), 46 %
This is an independent bottling by Little Brown Dog, distilled at Glen Garioch Distillery. Here is some of what they say on the official product page:
“This is us, our house style, our approach, our fascination with the spirit and a little taste of home, our home, Aberdeenshire.
Distilled, matured, vatted and bottled in Aberdeenshire.
Each batch is hand numbered. Batch sizes are about 2000 bottles, big for LBD but small by industry standards. The overall recipe won’t really change batch to batch but given the small sizes we expect there to be some small batch variation, which actually we want to celebrate.”
This single malt whisky has been matured in a combination of 60 % 1st fill ex-bourbon barrels and 40 % ex-Oloroso and ex-PX sherry casks.
The Aberdeenshire Single Malt 12 YO (Little Brown Dog) is also available in Norway at NOK 1099 (20855101).
Nose: Light, yet wonderfully rich and inviting. Red berries and orchard fruits come together in a lovely combination, with creamy vanilla and cinnamon adding further complexity. With time, the red berries are crushed and transformed into a deeply aromatic jam, accompanied by an increasingly luscious assortment of tropical fruits.
Taste: Full bodied. This is a straight shooter with a clear and commanding voice. Straight into deep, rich notes of orchard fruits, white pepper and soft oakiness. Beautifully focused and confident in its delivery. No fuss, no mess. Just a wonderfully direct and satisfying combination of fruit, spice and oak.
Finish: Medium to long. It just keeps growing, both in complexity, mouthfeel and depth. The fruitiness remains wonderfully rich, but gradually takes on a darker character. Dried fruits have now taken over and command the entire dancefloor, bringing a deeper, more concentrated sweetness to the lingering finish.
Comment: Enticing and enchanting.
