Yamazaki 12 YO

Yamazaki 12 YO

Sadly we do not get to see stock availability of Yamazaki whiskies with an age statement very often in Norway anymore. The Yamazaki 12 YO is a modern classic, and has been sorely missed of the past few years, since the Japanese whisky boom really sky rocketed.

To my surprise I recently found that I had never typed up a review of the Yamazaki 12 YO, so here it is.

Also, a few bottles of the Yamazaki 12 YO will find their way to Norway soon, available to buy on December 15, at NOK 642 (5138201). That is a bargain price - talk about bang for the buck!

Nose: Playful and delightful. Home made caramel pudding, with a mild and rich caramel sauce. Light fruit notes.

Taste: Rich mouthfeel, unusually so at an ABV of 43 %. Mild caramel notes again. White pepper as well. Creamy and yummy.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Deeper caramel notes now. The fruitiness goes deeper as well. Then, it transforms, towards the end it turns lighter, more fruity and almost sugary sweet. It dances on the tongue. The creaminess now more buttery in character.

Comments: A delight of a whisky. Lovely sherry notes and great complexity.
