Winchester Rye Whiskey

Winchester Rye Whiskey

I promise that this will be last review of a TerrePURE whiskey for a long while. Terresentia Corporation is the company behind this technique, where they use chemistry rather than oak to mature whiskey (more here).

Nose (18/25): Sweet with a bit of an edge. A bit like Dijon mustard. Spicy - mainly pepper. Soft fruitiness. A touch of perfume. Nothing really stands out, it is all very soft and shy. But wait! OK, I've waited. Now what? Aha, there is development. Now I find cinnamon, and baked apples. A TerrePURE whiskey with an OK nose?!

Taste (16/25): Soft and intensely sweet. Most definitely a lot of perfume character. Massive perfume on the second sip and the third and the ... no I've stopped now...

Finish (18/25): Sweet, mellow and short. Mild caramel and a touch of apple pie.

Balance (17/25): I am still quite puzzled by this TerrePURE process. What is it good for? Is it just to turn out more cheap product faster, to earn more money? I guess the answer is yes.

Score (69/100)
