Tomatin 36 YO, 46 %

Tomatin 36 YOThis exclusive whisky was added to the Tomatin core range back in 2015. This is batch 4, with bottling date 2017-07-31. The three previous batches have all been limited to 800 bottles, so I assume this is the case for batch 4 as well.

The Tomatin 36 YO has been matured in a combination of bourbon barrels and oloroso sherry butts. The official product page can be found here.

The Tomatin 36 YO will be released for sale in Norway on Friday March 1 at NOK 4999 (8316601). You can also pick up a bottle in the UK at around GBP 416. This whisky is not available to buy in Sweden at the moment.

Nose: This is a fruity one. Right off I pick up apples and pears, ripe and tasty, fresh and covered with morning dew. There's also citrus here, light notes of lemon and lime. Vanilla and a soft oakiness. With time there's rich honey and milk chocolate. Keeps developing in the glass - in a most positive and engaging way.

Taste: Rich and full-bodied. It hits the palate in a massive way - again this is positive. It is sweet, spicy, rich and borderline bitter-ish at the same time. It works, believe me, it works. All the goodness from the nose is present on the palate. Crisp orchard fruits with a touch of citrus in the back. White pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg and sweet ginger. Light honey notes.

Finish: Long finish. The spices die away, and the fruits take a seat in the back. Center stage we now have toffee, honey and milk chocolate with tempered notes of oak.

Comments: Wow! This is one of the very best Tomatin whiskies I have tasted.
