Wemyss Malts re-launched The Hive Blended Malt Scotch Whisky in 2020. I do not really care much for packaging, but this whisky looks good and stands out from the crowd, I think.

I love the fact that on their website they suggest specific pairings with different cheeses, meats, desserts and beers! Lots to explore.

The blend is described as follows by Wemyss Malts:

Base Malts:
Approx. 62% vatting of various light sweet and soft Speyside single malts.

Support Malts:
Approx. 8% support of richly flavoured Speyside single malt.

Signature Malts:
Approx. 30% fruity Speyside single malt.

You can get the The Hive Blended Malt Scotch Whisky in the UK at around GBP 40. It will be available in Norway shortly.

Nose: Honey and oranges, under a thin layer of dust. Softly oaky. A sprinkling of white pepper and ginger. Vanilla. With time also mandarin orange, lime zest and hints of grapefruit.

Taste: Medium body and sweetness. The sweetness is partly masked by peppery spiciness as well as a bitter-ish fruitiness - again citrus and grapefruit mainly. Ginger and vanilla.

Finish: Medium long. Lots of milk chocolate, white pepper, orange juice and “oaky water”.

Comment: It does deliver as advertised - honey, citrus and floral notes.

Score 81/100
