Stauning El Clásico

Stauning El Clásico, 3 YO, 45.7 %

El Clásico is the third release in the Research Series from Danish distillery Stauning. The base is again their classic rye whisky, this time matured in virgin American oak and Spanish Vermouth casks. This is what they say on the official product page:

“Rye whisky and sweet vermouth have always made a strong line-up in the iconic cocktail Manhattan. We wanted to capture that magic in our rye whisky.”

Nose: It opens with an herbal allure, swiftly intertwined with fruity depths. The dried fruits resonate alongside aromas of tobacco leaves, dried orange slices, and a sprinkling of cinnamon. With time, toasted oak makes a subtle entrance.

Palate: Medium to full body, its texture is a blend of rough charm. Flavors of chocolate and cacao nibs, punctuated by sharp white pepper. Creamy vanilla meets orchard fruits, while in the shadows, dried fruits linger with a hint of bitterness.

Finish: Medium length It distinctively reminisces the classic Manhattan cocktail.

Comment: A dance of flavors, and fun indeed.

Score 86/100
