SMWS G1.11 Iced mulled wine and Sorrento Limoncello, 21 YO, 65,1 %

SMWS G1.11 Iced mulled wine and Sorrento LimoncelloNow I will present SMWS whisky number 7 from the SMWS Sample Box No. 1, my Christmas calendar this year. All the 25 samples have been tasted blind.

This is how the Scotch Malt Whisky Society describe this whisky themselves:

This one is for you if you have a sweet tooth, Bourbon vanilla buttercream and toffee apple sponge pudding on the nose and Scotch pancakes neat. With the addition of water; orange cream fondant, tablet and caramelised sugar as well as some zest and spice.

The SMWS G1.11 Iced mulled wine and Sorrento Limoncello appears to be sold out, but you might find a bottle at around GBP 44 online.

Nose (22/25): This reminds me a bit of a full-bodied white wine, served at room temperature. Vanilla, grapes, and laundry detergent (yeah, the old school, powdered type). It is very light on the laundry detergent though, so it works well, believe me! It is like a spice, really. The grapes are joined by red berries after a while in the glass. A bit fruity as well, but I am not able to pinpoint any specific fruits.

Taste (22/25): Full-bodied, rich, fruity, lovely! Cool and delicate. Summer fruits mixed with a mild minty touch.

Finish (22/25): Medium long finish. It does taper off a bit sooner than I had hoped for, but that's really egotistical of me - I just wanted it to last! It does not develop any further, but what it does it does well right up until it dies.

Balance (22/25): Wow, this is good stuff!

Score (88/100)

Sláinte! - Thomas
