SMWS 4.299 Hard boiled dregs, 13 YO, 60.9 %

An independent bottling of Highland Park single malt, from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS). This whisky was distilled 2008-01-28, initially matured in an ex-bourbon hogshead, then finished in a 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel. The final outturn was 249 bottles.

Nose: Cacao nibs, coffee and marshmallows roasted over an open fire. Smoke is in the air, and spirits are high.

Taste: Medium to full bodied. Big on flavor - lots of chocolate, cacao nibs, coffee and toasted oak. Peppery honey as well.

Finish: Medium to long finish. More honey sweetness now, as well as orchard fruits. The chocolate - cacao - coffee notes are ever present. Dry notes of oak and pepper in the end.

Comment: Hard-hitting and hitting home. Choc shock!
