Gjoleid Mesterens Utvalgte

Gjoleid Mesterens Utvalgte, 10 YO, 47.2 %

This is the second 10 year old Norwegian whisky. It is not a single malt though, as it is made with a mashbill of 85 % malted barley and 15 % malted wheat.

This product was bottled 2021, following a maturation in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks. The release was limited to 6500 bottles

You can still pick up a bottle of this whisky at NOK 640 (13465702).

Nose: Warm and comforting nose. Creamy vanilla, rich caramel sauce and ripe red apples. Mildly malty. Playful notes of dried fruits, cinnamon and nutmeg. With time also a hint of citrus.

Taste: Medium to full bodied. Quite dry in character. Same fruitiness as I found on the nose. Mildly spicy - white pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Lighter, sweeter and even more fruity now. Candy store tendencies - reminiscent of an old grain whisky. Citrus and bitter chocolate towards the very end.

Comment: A very fine whisky from Arcus. The best Gjoleid release I have tried.
