OK, one more release from Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) this week. This time a 21 YO from Benrinnes Distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland.
The SMWS 36.166 Silky, smooth and sweet was distilled on 1997-08-15, and matured in a 2nd fill ex-bourbon barrel. The barrel yielded a total of 194 bottles.
Nose: Soft oakiness with a little sting. Coffee, vanilla and nuts. Assorted fruits, including citrus, as well as floral notes in the back.
Taste: Full bodied and rich in every which way. Exotic spices, warm sand, toasted oak, fresh citrus.
Finish: Long finish. Dusty, fruity hard candy with a generous sprinkling of icing sugar. All sorts of citrus. The oak is making less of an appearance now.
Comment: Fresh and stylish.
