This is the 9th single cask release from Swedish distillery Smögen Whisky.

It was distilled 2011-07-02, and matured in a single heavy toasted Swedish Oak barrique (cask #23/2011). It was bottled in September 2019. The total outturn was 377 bottles (50 cl).

Nose: First off it is all about the pine wood forest. Sweet and rich wood smoke that I often find on Smögen whisky. Then behind that lurks the oaky sweetness of the Swedish oak - of which I am not always a fan. Here though, it seems to work - amazing! It is balanced and nicer. Chocolate and earthy aniseed. Warm and restrained spices.

Taste: Filled to the brim of that which I call body. Sweet ashes and soot. Red hot chili embers. Sugary fruitiness sticking its head up through the smoke and having a look around.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Sweeter by the swallow. Smoky sugar cubes with a hint of mint and pine wood.

Comment: A damn fine glass of whisky. Finally a Swedish oak matured whisky that is great. Hurrah!
