Roknar Minnesota Rye Whiskey Sauternes Cask Finish

Roknar Minnesota Rye Whiskey Sauternes Cask Finish, NAS, 47 %

A high rye whisky produced by Far North Spirits, Minnesota. From the official product page I picked up the following information:

Aged for 16 months in 15-gallon charred oak barrels and finished in Sauternes wine casks.

Mashbill: 80% AC Hazlet Rye, 10% Corn, 10% Malted Barley (by Vertical Malts in Crookston MN).

Nose: Honey, fudge and nuts. Earthy with some spiciness. Somewhat oaky. With time leather, chocolate shoe shine polish, and tomato vine.

Taste: Medium body. Oaky with berries (raspberry, blueberry). White pepper. A bit rough around the edges. Sugary sweetness.

Finish: Medium to short finish. A bit watery. Spicier now. Apples, cinnamon and cracked black pepper in soda water.

Comment: A weird one for sure.
