Prologue Limited Edition (Kozuba & Sons)

I am quiet excited to try the first Polish single malt whisky. The Prologue Limited Edition is made by the Kosuba & Sons Distillery from Jabłonka near Nidzica in Masuria, Poland. Their webpage is just a place holder page for now, but it is still way cool, if you are into comics (like me).

Prologue Limited Edition was matured for three years in fresh American oak casks. The mash bill given on the label states: 40% Pale Ale, 40% birch smoked and 20% caramelized. This is a limited edition, as the name says, made from four casks (cask #2-5), with a total outturn of 1400 bottles.

Nose (20/25): Soft and shy. Oak, mint, eucalyptus, light caramel, and hints of fruit (unspecified). There is some alcohol bite here, and hints of kerosene. Lots of herbs after a few minutes. It starts off as not very sweet, but with time it grows sweeter. It appears very young on the nose.

Taste (17/25): Raw and bordering on unpleasant mouthfeel. Alcohol bite. Watery, bitter,  caramel and lots of oak. This comes across as very young, and immature.

Finish (16/25): Short finish. A bit of sugary sweetness. Nothing more happens really.

Balance (17/25):

Score (70/100)

Thanks to my friend Łukasz over at Luk Loves Whisky for the sample and the image.
