I continue reviewing bottlings from Diageo’s Special Releases 2020. Now the Pittyvaich 30 YO. This whisky was distilled in 1989, and matured in refill and finished in 1st fill ex-bourbon casks. This release is limied to 7056 bottles.

Pittyvaich was a shortlived Speyside distillery that closed down in 1993.

You can buy the Pittyvaich 30 YO (Special Releases 2020) in Norway staring November 6 at NOK 4300 (12315301). You can also buy it in the UK at around GBP 400.

Nose: Simple syrup and toasted oak. With time some floral notes. Grilled pineapple and hot marshmallows.

Taste: Medium body. Quite oaky up front, and cool. Oaky spices, wet planks, ginger soda pop and vanilla.

Finish: Long finish. Fresh notes of green mint, menthol, eucalyptus and cut grass. Rich and tongue-numbing sweetness. Oaky and softly astringent.

Comment: A bit overwhelming actually, but still very good.
