Oban Little Bay, NAS, 43 %

Oban Little BayThe Oban Little Bay is a brand new Travel Retail exclusive. The Gaelic word Oban actually means 'little bay', which means you could say this whisky is called Oban Oban or Little Bay Little Bay.

This is a no age statement expression (NAS). The whisky that went into the Oban Little Bay has been matured in three types of casks; European oak ex-sherry casks, re-fill casks with new oak cask ends and re-fill American oak hogsheads. These have then been combined and married in small oak casks for a short period for added integration and maturation.

The price is set to around GBP 60.

Nose (22/25): Sweet, vanilla, banana, mild maltiness. Soft and delicate. A hint of sea salt gives it a slightly maritime feel. There is also some citrus and soft fruitiness.

Taste (21/25): More salty now, and with added white pepper. Still sweet with banana and vanilla. The maltiness is even softer here. A bit minty. The fruitiness is weaker than on the nose, but I do detect notes of green apples and citrus.

Finish (21/25): Medium long finish. More minty towards the end. The maltiness increases a bit, and takes over for the vanilla and banana notes.

Balance (21/25): A well-balanced, light dram. Perfect for lazy summer afternoons down by the harbour.

Score (85/100)
