What a massive achievement to be able to release a 10 YO whisky! Teerenpeli is, as far as I know, the first distillery in Finland, and only the second in the Nordics (after Mackmyra) to release a 10 YO single malt whisky. Impressive stuff! Nordic whisky is maturing (pun very much intended!).

The Teerenpeli 10 YO was released on October 10 2015, so that was a 10 on 10 10 (Nice touch, that!). It replaces the 8 YO which is now discontinued. This whisky release not only marks a major achievement in producing a 10 YO, it also represents a new style of whisky for Teerenpeli. Where the 'standard' editions so far have been exclusively or mainly sherry matured, the Teerenpeli 10 YO is 80 % maturd in ex-bourbon barrels and only 20 % in ex-sherry casks.

At this time you can buy the Teerenpeli 10 YO in Finland and online from the UK at around GBP 64. I expect we will see it available in Norway shortly. Not sure if they have Teerenpeli available at all in Sweden at the moment.

Nose (22/25): Light and fruity. There's baked apples, mixed with fresh green apples, all sprinkled with powdered sugar and vanilla, served with marshmallows on the side. I do get notes of quality apple cider as well. I really like the fruitiness here. Hints of camphor in the back.

Taste (22/25): The fruits are now spiced; with white pepper, ginger and nutmeg. Vanilla and mild oak notes.

Finish (21/25): A bi dry towards the end, and slightly more woody. The spices linger, as well as the green apples. The sweetness is almost gone at the end.

Balance (22/25): A nicely balanced and fruity 10 YO. Congrats to Teerenpeli. Looking forward to your 12 YO!

Score (87/100)
