Braunstein 14:2The whisky under review today is the Braunstein 14:2, the second Library Collection release of 2014 from this Danish distillery. This whisky has been matured in bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, and it was bottled on 2014-09-10. It holds an ABV of 46 %, and is sold in 50 cl bottles.

This is a medium peated whisky. The makeup of Braunstein 14:2 is peated spirit matured in bourbon casks and unpeated spirit matured in oloroso sherry casks.

Braunstein whisky is not yet available to buy in Norway. In Sweden you can get a hold of a few older releases, but to get the full range, including this Braunstein 14:2, you have to visit Braunsteins own online whisky store. This whisky is sold at DKK

Nose (21/25): Peated, fruity and sweet. There is a distinct note of berries on the nose; blackcurrant and cherries. The peatiness appears as notes of wood smoke.

Taste (22/25): Sugary and sweet. The berries are still quite prominent - mainly cherries. Mildly peaty now - more on the nose really. Dark fruits and a hint of chocolate.

Finish (20/25): Sugary, soft and mild. A light peat base stays for a long while, on top of which I find mild fruitiness and chocolate notes.

Balance (21/25): A nice, sweet, dessert-like dram. Good stuff!

Score (84/100)
